Our Year 5 Learning
At Old Hall we are proud of the broad curriculum we offer. The children enjoy a wide variety of subjects and this helps to develop our children and their learning. We believe that this is a fundamental part of supporting children with their understanding of the World in which they live. Please see highlights of our half term which we will continue to update below.
Here is the curriculum map for Year 5, it contains all the exciting, interesting things we will be learning this year.

Times Tables
Being confident in times tables is still extremely important in Year 5. Mathematical questions become increasingly harder, and having the fluency with times tables will enable them to tackle these questions with more ease. Daily practice of times tables is still recommended in Year 5.
Science
Exploring Flowers in Science
In this practical science lesson, pupils carried out a flower dissection to explore the structure of flowering plants. Carefully taking the flowers apart, they identified and sorted key parts including the petals, sepals, stamen and carpel.
This hands‑on activity helped pupils deepen their understanding of plant reproduction and develop their observational skills, while encouraging curiosity and scientific discussion.
PE
Dance in PE
In PE, pupils explored a range of different dance styles, learning how movement can be used to express ideas and emotions. They then worked creatively to choreograph their own dances, combining taught techniques with original sequences.
This unit helped pupils build confidence, coordination and teamwork, while developing creativity and performance skills.
Art
Art and Colour
In Art, pupils explored a range of artistic styles, focusing on how colour is used to create mood, movement and impact. They experimented with different colour choices and techniques, applying what they had learned to produce their own artwork.
This helped pupils develop their creativity, confidence with colour, and an appreciation of how artists use style and colour to communicate ideas.
